Stock pipes swap only (no other mods): Usually +2–5 horsepower and similar torque increase over stock, often in the 2500–4500 RPM range
Mid-range focus: Riders frequently praise it for improved torque delivery (e.g., “feels like added torque in gear shifts,” “strong curve from idle to 4500 RPM”)
Description
Vance & Hines Big Radius 2-into-2 full exhaust system in chrome finish, laid out uninstalled on a workbench (likely during unboxing or prep for a Harley-Davidson build). This is one of the most iconic and popular aftermarket 2-into-2 exhaust setups for Harleys, especially on Softail (e.g., Fat Boy, Heritage, Street Bob), Dyna, and some Touring or Sportster models depending on the specific part number and year fitment.
Key Features and Design
- Style and Look: Radical custom styling with bold, sweeping, large-diameter curved pipes that give a clean, aggressive, hot-rod profile. The pipes feature oversized 2-1/2-inch diameter headers and mufflers (big and visible for that “big radius” name), with precision-cut, full-coverage heat shields that wrap almost completely around the pipes to keep them looking shiny and prevent bluing/discoloration from heat. The tips have a distinctive scalloped or slash-cut end for a unique, finished appearance.
- Finish: High-polish chrome (as seen in the photo—the bright, reflective surface with protective wrapping still on parts to avoid scratches during shipping).
- Performance: Incorporates PCX™ (Power Chamber Exhaust) Technology in many versions, including a chambered high-flow catalytic cartridge that boosts mid-range torque while maintaining emissions compliance (49-state legal in applicable models). It delivers noticeable gains in horsepower and torque over stock, with improved throttle response and a deep, throaty, aggressive V-twin growl that’s loud but not overly raspy—often described as a signature “hotrod rumble” that cuts through road noise without being obnoxious.
- Sound: Iconic deep bass-heavy tone; many riders pair it with stage 1 upgrades (air cleaner + tuner) for even more volume and power. It’s louder than stock but retains that classic Harley character.
